The New Adventures of Me + Lynda.com

April 5, 2011

I’m very excited to delve into the depths of the online learning tool, Lynda.com. While I wasn’t able to convince my employer to send me to night classes and pay for them (a tidy $25,000 sum) — I was able to persuade them into signing up for an account and giving me time each week to take classes (and thus further fill my toolkit of web skills.) I’ve come up with an initial list of interests, and will take the beginner classes for each. I also will be working from home Wednesday afternoons in order to take the classes without any interruptions (does Murphy count as an interruption? He may have to sit on my lap while I watch the videos.) After going over a list of many potential interests, my web-guy and I settled on these categories:

  • HTML
  • HTML Email Design Best Practices
  • CSS
  • Dreamweaver
  • Website Strategy/Planning
  • SEO

My goal is to conquer those, and move on to WordPress, CMS and Joomla. One day you will pop onto this blog and see an entirely new, designed-by-me web site — not just some template I’ve tried to jury rig to do my bidding.

I’m trying to come up with my own “Class Schedules” so I keep on top of it. For the next four weeks:

  1. Web Design Fundamentals
  2. XHTML and HTML Essential Training
  3. Dreamweaver CS4 Getting Started
  4. Dreamweaver CS4 Essential Training

These all fall under the Category of “Web + Training: HTML + HTML 5”

I’m planning to write-up some notes on each class, but we’ll see if I can keep up that lofty goal. In writing this post, I’ve discovered another word I’ve pronounced and spelled wrong my entire life. Yes, I say another. So look for a post on that at some point. Seems I make up stuff in my head a lot, and no one likes to correct me. THANKS, FRIENDS. You know who you are.
